Growing up in a Midwest, Great Plains state, we didn’t really have many baseball teams to root for or to claim as our “home” team. There were the Colorado Rockies, the Kansas City Royals, but if you wanted to be part of a larger group, the Cubbies were your team.
Growing up, it was Andre Dawson and Ryne Sandburg that dominated the team and were who you cheered for when the going got tough. In the last few years they have finally broken the curse that was placed on them early in their reign as one of the most loved baseball teams around. Even though they may return to their former glory of being mediocre, I will continue to cheer for anything and any one associate with the Cubbies. See a later post about Harry Carey!
